BIN LADEN TOOK THE BEST
 Leonardo Attuch
The response to September 11 is the main cause of the decline of American empire
Of all the big anniversaries, none has been as anticipated as the now ten years from September 11. The date that changed the world. The Day the Earth Stood Still. The moment that all mankind, gaping, saw the collapse of the Twin Towers. There are those who do not remember what was at that very moment.Nothing was so striking, so spectacular and as scary as the image of two Boeing piercing the steel and concrete towers of the World Trade Center in New York.

There, there, the perception that the world would not be the same - as indeed it was not. A decade later, with Osama bin Laden captured and killed by troops of the elite U.S. Army, which is the final balance? Paradoxically, the terrorist won. If your goal was to undermine - and eventually scrap - the American empire, it has been achieved. Not by their merits, but the excessive reaction conducted by the United States. The current financial collapse, in a sense, is a reflection of bad decisions taken in response to the attack.

A day after the attack, President George W. Bush called the former CIA chief George Tenet, saying that Iraq would have to pay the price. There was born the "war on terror" and the theory of preemptive strikes. According to economist Joseph Stiglitz, the Iraq invasion, anchored in the biggest lie of all time - the weapons of mass destruction "- cost $ 4 trillion to the United States. Thrown away money for a country that tried to seize wealth while others rested bin Laden in Pakistan, an ally of the United States. And as it was not possible to stabilize Iraq and to stick their wells, oil was $ 150, precipitating the financial crisis of 2008, which still causes reflections.

The ush was, and almost breaking the United States, this also made the country lose its moral heritage. And though Barack Obama can rescue him, the world post September 11 unilateralism no longer holds an empire.

A few months ago, when discussing whether or not the U.S. government enact a moratorium, there was another underlying debate. The United States should be or not police the world, imposing its Pax Americana? Apparently the bill was too heavy, even for the richest nation in the world. The burden of empire is greater than its benefits.

Osama bin Laden won.
